I noticed on every complete turn of the back gear that the pawls control ing the gear seems to slow down For a few ticks. Probably due to friction or an imbalance somewhere. I haven’t even tried adjusting the time yet. I want to give the clock a few weeks to settle in. I’ll probably take the clock apart in several more weeks to clean the bearings, and make sure nothing is binding anywhere. It just take time to get this thing running good. Remember, it Steve’s latest design, and who knows, he may end up tweaking it again. Enjoy the experience

You have to learn yourself what each adjustment of the arms do before you can come up with the best combination of pawl sizes and positions. So, try all combinations to learn how they work. It’s a tedious process.

Just start with each of the pawl, static and active. Try each combination, moving them up and down the pendulum arm until you find the best fit. Ones that do not slip, and always proceeds to the next gear tooth correctly. It take some time to do this, but you will eventually find a combination that works The best. Good luck. You will feel proud when it is all working.

Our thermostat keeps our temperature very close to 74 degrees. So that probably helps the stability quite a bit. We did make the measurements visually, but for every measurement we took five and averaged to get a little better fractions of a second. We used a stopwatch for both the clock measurements and the measurements of the NIST time standard signals at https://time.gov

Ordered my quartz movement from to different Chinese vendors. We’ll see which gets here first. I’ll be adding sound to my clock.
