I have just completed my 8 day clock it runs for 5 or 10 mins then stops and i have noticed that it seems the minute had is not moving excuse my ignorance any ideas anyone
Hi once again many thanks for your help if I look closely at the clock I can see most of the gears moving very slowly obviously some I can't because they move to sliw but I'll check for play but I do think there is not enough tension in my spring its all part of the learning curve lol
Hi clock continually tics away now but looses 40 minutes or so over night the pendulum is at its highest point to speed up the clock but I think I need to make the spring stronger perhaps it is slipping slightly any thoughts on this anyone.
Losing 40 minutes per day indicates that the spring is not applying enough pressure to overcome friction somewhere in gears 4, 5, and 6. It is unlikely that the pendulum rate can be that far off.
Make sure gear 6 is not binding where it passes through the dial.
Also check that the stack of gears in the center of the dial is not pinched by the frame. There should be a small amount of end shake.
Some pen springs have a small end. Make sure it is not interfering with the operation. The small end can be placed next to gear 6, but not next to gear 4.
All of these things can be debugged with only gears 4, 5, and 6 in the clock. The hands should move properly when the large gear 4 is rotated.
Hi the clock is now continuously working but the hands are not moving I did cut the pen spring down I will try a full pen spring thinking there is not enough tension to turn the hands
A longer spring may be all you need. A standard pen spring is commonly around 1" long and will be compressed to around 0.7" in this clock to provide enough tension to move the hands.

Answering a few questions can help narrow down the search for a solution.
Does the hour hand spin freely where it passes through the front dial?
Does the escapement spin up quickly with each tick? Or is it sluggish?
How long does the pendulum swing before stopping when the escapement is removed?
