    Igus filaments?

    in Printed Clocks

Printing an S5 now with PLA, but I did recall that I have some iglide I150 lying around... has anyone explored printing the gear train with a filament specifically designed for low friction (with solid lubricants, etc)? Wonder how much a difference it would make...

Yeah, the color choices are somewhat limited. I150 seems like a good choice. I will try it some day.

I also want to try Matterhackers quantum PLA with two colors fuses into one strand. It is purely cosmetic. A homemade clock needs to look good.

The I150 specifically is also pretty readily available (Amazon, ColorFabb), and only about 2x PLA price. I might give it a shot once I have my first print up and running so I have something to compare to. I guess the downside on the I150 is that it's just not particularly pretty. Might have to do a decorative layer with a different filament.

Good question. I try to design using common material, but Igus filaments look amazing. They would probably make some really great gears. The frame could still be made using cheaper PLA.
