I am assembling the 3d pendulum clock using the sp13 build notes. Knowing that pla plastic is soft, I carefully tried to tighten gears 4b-18 and spacer 8a that goes with gear 8-54-8 to the metal shafts. Both screws stripped and would not tighten tightly against the shafts. I epoxied both the gear and the spacer to the metal shafts. Will this affect the operation of the clock when assembly is complete? Any suggestion on tightening the m3x8mm screws into the plastic so they will tighten successfully? Thanks.

That works just as well as the set screws. A minor issue is that you will have trouble taking it apart, but you should never need to. I have avoided using heat set inserts because it would be one more component to acquire. M3 screws are much easier to find.
Other solutions could include a thin layer of epoxy or superglue on the inside of the screw holes to add extra material.
