apparently this popup message is unique to macintosh; it has been reported as an issue by several people, but I don't yet see a fix...someone did note that installing the code does work, but it is very large...
may be time to switch over to windows mode, sigh

ahh, I tried loading the sketch instead of copy and paste , and it compiled fine. rtc library loaded ok too, I think, But when I upload the program to the nano, the serial monitor does not show anything other than the text "cnc shield v4 clock movement rev 1.05"; it does not display the info you show in your documentation e.g., speed, steps, etc
