clicking and jamming of large crazy gear clock

Steve, do you have a suggested methodology for chasing down a situation in which some gear(s) are making a clicking sound, and sometimes the gear train is totally stopped. Yet when I run the gears by hand, I notice none of those things. Disclosure: the clock fell off a short table onto the floor, but I did not see any visible signs of damage. Prior to the fall, the clock ran flawlessly. thanks Mike

Something must have changed. It could be a gear in the back row shifting out of alignment. Or it could be a broken gear. Or a shaft might have been bent.

Probably best to take it apart and re-insert the gears again. That will give you a chance to inspect things and check that the back row is properly aligned.
