8 Day Clock Issue

Hello All! I’m stumped. I have my clock assembled snd I’ve checked all bearings/pinions for friction. Pendulum is good to go.

It seems there is some issue between Gear 1 and Gear 2. Left alone, the bottom segment of Gear 1 will not move Gear 2 to set the gear train in motion. If I manually apply force to gear two, it works fine. Before I do a tear down and detailed troubleshoot, was wondering if anyone else had this issue? TIA!

More data might be needed to help debug the issue.

What does the escapement (gear 1) do when you manually swing the pendulum back and forth? Does it spin up quickly with each tick and tock? Or is it sluggish? It should react almost instantaneously as soon as the pallet tips clear the escapement teeth.

A slow escapement can have several causes. There could be excess friction in any gear between gear 1 and gear 8. Or the clock may need additional drive weight.

You should expect to tear down the clock several times during debug. It usually helps to simplify problems by only looking at 1 or 2 gears at a time.
