Wagon Spring Power

@Steve

I wonder if you ever saw a wagon spring clock. There are few ways to power a clock and printing leaf springs outta pla and stacking them may give you enough power for a nice desk or mantle clock. I have seen these wagon springs even made from wood. The photo below is a complex metal setup, but it doesnt have to be this complex. And I dont think you will need the cantilever system. You make your spring, then attach a cord to them and wind up that cord on the drum. You could anchor the spring in the center and have 2 cords going to the drum, One from each side of the spring. However getting past a 36 hour clock might be the issue. You would have to tinker some.

Just some food for thought.

@Steve In 1998 I was part of a team part of a team that created a weight driven 8 day wall hanging clock made from Russian Baltic Birch plywood. This was cut on a 2Kw laser. We developed this unit to run very well.

It was my intention to move on and design a mantle clock using stacked wooden leaf springs to power the unit. However sadly this never got off the ground as the folks that owned and operated the 2Kw laser kinda ran away with our designs and started making their own....(our!) clocks called the dancer. Everything kinda fell apart at that point. I left the team.

However this idea is not dead with me. I presented it to you as you have seem to have done all the leg work on the gear train and adding printed spring power is only a small leap away. Thought the concept might interest you. I see you moved on to stepper drive and magnetic pulse, but this spring idea is not metal or electric and could be printed or made from Baltic birch ply.

Here are some photos of those days so long ago.

Its nice to be back :)

Cheers
